A spokesman from Network Rail said: '˜The incident took place at 7.24am '“ it was a van that had driven into the barrier at Angmering.

'˜The barrier had been damaged and was pointing away from the track.

'˜We got out there quite quickly to repair the damage, but there was a big traffic build-up while the crossing was closed, and trains had to run at a reduced speed.

'˜Everything was back up and running by 8.33am.'
