TWO multi-vehicle crashes within minutes of each other caused long delays for drivers on the M27 today.

The accidents were reported around Junction 12 as the morning rush hour got underway.

Romanse traffic managers posted a picture of one of the accidents, which happened in the westbound outside lane between Junction 12 and Junction 11 for Fareham.

Police confirmed the first accident happened at 7.14am between Junction 12 at Port Solent and Junction 11 for Fareham.

Five vehicles were involved in the crash – including a Peugeot, Ford Galaxy, Vauxall Corsa X2, and Seat car.

There was one minor injury.

Emergency services attended the scene and it took until 9.10am for the scene to be made safe and all the vehicles to be cleared.

The second accident happened at 7.19am when four vehicles were in collision.

The accident, just before Junction 12 at Port Solent, involved two vans and two cars.

The vehicles were badly damaged in the smash, but there was only one minor injury.

The wreckage had been moved to the hard shoulder by about 7.40am, but the knock-on effect of both crashes left traffic queueing back to Emsworth on the A27 until after 9am today.

Delays were also reported on the A3(M) and the Eastern Road in Portsmouth.
