A MAN has been bailed following an '˜axe attack' in Gosport yesterday.

A group of men have been ‘assaulted’ by a man ‘waving an axe’ in Stoke Road, Gosport.

The assailant is said to have been threatening the group from 10.30am yesterday, according to a partner of one of the men, who did not wish to be named.

She said: ‘They were threatened by a man waving an axe. He was continuously trying to hit them all.

‘My partner has been very shaken by the event.’

A spokesperson for the police said: ‘We were called at 11.24am and attended an address in Stoke Road, Gosport.

‘A 29-year-old man from Portsmouth has been arrested in connection with the incident.

‘He has been bailed until January 12.’
