THIS WEEK IN 1975: Hampshire church wrecked in storm

A Hampshire church was destroyed after lightening hit its roof during thunderstorms that swept the country.

Firemen from five stations in Hampshire fought to tackle the blaze at Hatherden, near Andover.

The roof collapsed and the church was burned out.

More than half-an-inch of rain fell during the storms in the Portsmouth area, according to Southampton Weather Centre.

They brought extensive power failures.
