Cook to tinker with side for Donny visit

But the Blues boss has warned against wholesale switches for tomorrow’s visit of Doncaster Rovers.

Cook’s side aim to bounce back from the disappointing midweek display at Blackpool.

The likes of Kyle Bennett, Milan Lalkovic, Michael Smith and Curtis Main are pushing for inclusion.

Cook can see changes but is guarding against ripping up his side after their Bloomfield Road frustration.

He said: ‘By being not good enough you don’t have to make six changes.

‘The team on Tuesday would have been what 90 per cent of our supporters wanted.

‘Now, if that was the best team last Saturday it should be the best team on Tuesday. As a manager, you have to be careful.

‘I’m not saying there won’t be a change or two.

‘But you must educate players, you must be better and then you must put them in that situation again.’

Cook highlighted the need for the players who came up short at Blackpool to be able to make amends at Fratton Park.

He said: ‘I always think about players. Ben Close is a good example. Ben had a couple of really difficult games last year. Barnet and Yeovil away.

‘To improve you must go back to those places and play. Have you learnt from what you’ve done before?

‘We’re not doing well enough at the top end of the pitch away from home

‘We don’t look like we’re going to win a game, and we’ll address that moving forward.

‘For us now, though, we have the exact same pattern developing.

‘Having a platform to achieve and falling short. We must break that cycle.’
