Pompey bid kicks off against Carlisle

Pompey's latest promotion bid will kick-off against Carlisle following today's unveiling of the League Two fixture list.

Paul Cook’s men will host the Cumbrians on Saturday, August 6, one of only two Fratton Park fixtures in their opening five league games.

That is followed by a trip to Crewe (August 13) and an arduous midweek trek to Morecambe (Tuesday, August 16).

A home clash with newly-relegated Colchester is scheduled for August 20, while the month is completed with a visit to Exeter (August 27).

There is disappointment for the Fratton faithful with the fixture at Blackpool taking place on September 27 – a Tuesday night.

In the return encounter, the Tangerines visit Fratton Park on Tuesday, February 14.

Elsewhere, Boxing Day will be spent at Newport County, while New Year’s Eve is a trip to Yeovil.

The first fixture of 2017 will be a Fratton Park clash with Luton (Monday, January 2), who have ex-Blues boss Paul Hart among their coaching staff.

The campaign is scheduled to end on Saturday, May 6, with the visit of Cheltenham, back in League Two following a season spent in non-league.

Finally, Pompey will meet their play-off semi-final conquerors, Plymouth, on October 15 at Home Park.

The corresponding game is April 15, five matches away from the season’s end.
