Former Pompey favourite Greg Halford has offered to play for free in a bid to revive his career.

The defender has been without a club for more than a year after leaving Aberdeen in May 2019.

Halford, who scored 12 goals in 77 appearances during his two-year spell at Fratton Park, trained with League Two outfit Walsall earlier this year but failed to win a contract.

Now Halford – who has also represented the likes of Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Sunderland and Cardiff during his career – is hoping to secure a new club.

Writing on his Linkedin profile, the 35-year-old revealed his hunger is ‘as strong as ever’ and is fully fit for any side that would be interested in signing him.

Halford said: ‘If there any clubs out there looking for an experienced and motivated player with over 500 league appearances im willing to play for free up to January.

‘I've had a pre season with a club and trained everyday since and still training now so I'm fit and ready to go into a team.

‘My hunger is as strong as ever and willing to do anything to get my career up and running again.’
