The Corhampton Golf Club ace gets his Open campaign started at 7.08am tomorrow in the company of Major winners Sandy Lyle and David Duval.

But before embarking on the biggest round of his life, the 21-year-old British Amateur champion was able to get some last-minute expert advice from Hampshire counterpart Rose on the final day of practice.

The 2013 US Open winner is among the favourites to lift the famous Claret Jug at Royal Troon on Sunday.

Rose also boasts an Open Championship Silver Medal after his fourth-place finish at Royal Birkdale in 1998 – the day before he turned professional.

And that’s the prestigious prize in Gregory’s sights over the next few days which is awarded to the leading amateur player at the conclusion of play.

The Waterlooville player commences his second round at 12.09pm on Friday in the hope of making the cut for the weekend.
