Review: Chase and Status, Portsmouth Guildhall

Chase and Status were loud, bright and altogether in-your-face.

They mixed old and new material seamlessly, and it didn’t matter to the audience who were quite literally going wild. The whole place was up dancing or jumping or moshing.

The electronic dance duo, who’ve been around since 2003, know how to put on a show.

Their mix of loud electronica cross grime, dubstep, drum n bass and house is a sure-fire crowd pleaser. Accompanied by an eye-watering light show and lazers, this show was a truly immersive experience. I’ve never heard the Guildhall reverberate with so much bass, which made your eyelashes quiver and your soul vibrate.

This tour was promoting new material for the new album, which is still being eagerly anticipated. And new songs were lapped up by this crowd.

Special guests Frisco, Tom Greenan, Louis Mattrs and Liam Bailey made this set one to remember, especially as Liam came out during the encore to perform major hit Blind Faith.

It’s difficult to pick favourite moments or songs as the whole set was blinding.

If these BAFTA-award winners can keep belting out these feel-good tunes, then I’m sure we are going to be seeing a lot more of them.

Their tour continues with a gigs in London on December 15 before they head off to Australia for New Year.
