Dave Friday baked a coffee Battenberg, took on the pineapple upside down cake technical challenge and recreated Blink 182’s Tom DeLonge in icing to secure a place in biscuit week.

But the 30-year-old’s first appearance wasn’t without drama after his pineapple upside down cakes ended...upside down after fellow bake Sura accidentally knocked Dave, while shooing away a fly, sending four of his six cakes to the ground.

New co-host Matt Lucas made his debut in in a skit mimicking Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s coronavirus briefings.

The Little Britain star wore a blonde wig and stood at a lectern with the slogan, ‘Stay Alert, Bake Cake, Save Loaves’.

This year’s series saw the 12 bakers, presenters and programme team spend weeks away from their families while filming in order to form a ‘bubble’ in Down Hall Hotel near Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire.

Great British Bake Off is on every Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
