Airline behind mystery letters
The word LIM was spelled out along with the hashtag #SOclose2U.
Now the airline KLM has stepped forward to admit the letters were part of a drive to publicise its new flights from Southampton Airport to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which start on Monday.

Hide AdWarner Rootliep, general manager of Air France KLM UK and Ireland, said: ‘We’ve been amused by some of the theories behind all our letters but we had to find a fun way of letting everyone know what these letters meant.’
‘The letters LIM are the International Air Transport Association airport codes for Lima in Peru, one of the international destinations that are now on travellers’ doorsteps, thanks to the new service from Southampton.’
Travellers will be able to hop on the new KLM flight from Southampton airport and fly to 150 worldwide destinations, including New York, Orlando, Toronto, Shanghai, Beijing, Delhi or Nairobi.
KLM has promised that the fun won’t stop – if you tweet a selfie of yourself next to the KLM letters to @KLM_UK using the hashtag #SOclose2U, you could be in with a chance to win KLM flights from Southampton Airport.
