Airport staff clear rubbish

STAFF at a Hampshire airport have given up their time to clear litter with members of the community.

Southampton Airport workers joined forces with local residents at Frogs Copse – a woodland area next to the airport – to collect more than 10 bags of rubbish.

Among the litter were golf clubs, plastic signs and pieces of carpet.

Managing director of Southampton Airport, Neil Garwood, said: ‘We are proud to have organised such a positive event.

‘The area that we focused on clearing is very often used by children as a shortcut from Bitterne Park so it is important to keep it tidy and free of hazards.

‘It’s incredible how much rubbish accumulates in such a small area.’

Mr Garwood added that the airport is ‘commited to working with our community to make the areas around the airport cleaner and safer.’
