Car group sees record sales

Figures from the Society of Manufacturers and Traders reveal that car sales so far this year have passed the two million mark with 496,696 sold in September.

Hendy Group operates 12 franchises at 25 locations, including Portsmouth.

Chief executive Paul Hendy said sales nationally were up 2.6 per cent, with the Ford Fiesta the top-selling car both last month and this year.

He said: ‘The arrival of the new number plate always gives the market a boost, but overall the figures reflect a steady market and we are seeing strong sales across the region and in all sectors in which we operate.’

Paul said the arrival of new models, interest in technology and alternative fuels created a strong month.
