Donald Wright, senior auction valuer, said: ‘Bidders were revved up and the final offer was £67,000 more than the lower end of the guide price.

‘The interest reflected the fact that this was a rare opportunity to purchase a former car dealership which has been in continuous ownership within the same family since 1981.’

Elsewhere, 12 lock-up garages in Gazelle Close, Rowner, Gosport, fetched £82,000, more than twice the guide price. Four lock-up garages in Southsea, all freehold, also sold.
