Homebase has said the store will be closing in December, but said the exact date of closure is still to be confirmed.

Nine other Homebase locations across the UK in “key target locations” are also being purchased by Sainsbury’s, with plans to convert them into new supermarkets and create 1,000 jobs.

The News understands that the new Sainsbury’s store will not be a 24-hour branch and could be open by the summer of 2025, employing around 100 people.
