Alex, 41, said he was delighted to be investing in Wickham’s history, and that he hopes the tea rooms will continue to play a big part in village life.

He said: ‘The building needed a bit of a makeover when we took it on, it needed a freshen up, but we are sticking to the ethos and keeping its charm. It is a beautiful old building and we wanted to keep that in the community.’

Alex said he intends to keep the menu the same, with some new dishes added, and that he has employed the same chef.
