McDonald's responds to rumours it is reopening restaurants in May

Since opening up its first site in Woolwich, south east London, in November 1974, the chain has become part of the furniture on high streets up and down the country.

Portsmouth is no different, with plenty of restaurants all across the area.

However due to the coronavirus outbreak, the fast food giant announced that it would be shutting all of its stores across the UK on March 22 – a day before the country went into lockdown.

Reports that McDonald’s was planning to follow the likes of KFC, Burger King and Pret in reopening some restaurants but with drive-through only began to circulate on Friday.

The fast food giant took to social media to respond to the rumours.

McDonald’s official Facebook page wrote: ‘Well, our notifications are going wild tonight – we miss you too. We promise we will update you here as soon as we have confirmed our plans. Stay safe, stay at home and we will see you soon.’

The post has been liked more than 10,000 times and shared 1,500 times, with 3,000 comments, since it was posted on Friday night.
