Salons have thrown open their doors to customers as they begin to tackle their waiting lists after being shut for more than three months.

The Style Studio in Rowlands Castle is back in business today and staff Becky Hawkins, Frances Perrott and Gemma Ashman have donned PPE so they can begin to welcome clients.

Francis, who owns the salon, said: ‘We are so glad to be back. We’ve really missed everyone.

‘We gave priority to all the customers who had their appointments cancelled because they have waited so long.

‘We have made changes, like taking out one of the stations, but we are still managing to fit quite a few people in even with the two metre rule.’

Gemma added: ‘It does feel very strange because we have been away for so long but it is so good to be back.’

Neil Hood, from Edwards for Men in Southsea, gave lucky client Russell Keith a hair cut last night at 12am to mark the very first moment that hairdressers are allowed to reopen.

He said: ‘It has been 103 days since I cut someone’s hair so was good to get back to it.

‘It was a bit of fun to do it at midnight. When we heard the news that Boris said we could open on July 4 and so I put a post my Facebook page saying who wants one at midnight and a lot of people said they were willing.

‘Russell is an old friend so he was my willing participant. It was a bit strange being in Southsea at that hour because it is usually so busy but of course it was dead.

‘It was also a good chance to try all the PPE out while cutting someone’s hair.’

Eden Furlong reopened his salon today but gave it a new name in honour of his sister and co-owner Julie Erridge, who died earlier this year.

Previously Hair Furlong, the salon, now called Juliee’s, in Highland Road has had a full refurbishment while it has been closed, with the idea of the revamp initially starting as a surprise paint job from Eden to Julie for when she returned from holiday.
