Southsea photographers snap 100 women via FaceTime

A GROUP of photographers have completed their pledge to photograph 100 women from the comfort of their own homes after coronavirus restrictions caused the business to close its doors.

The team at Liberty Photography, based in Grove Road in Southsea have been working over the last three weeks photographing women through FaceTime calls.

Owner of the business, Jennifer Sanchez was inspired by photographer Tim Durk to offer the Liberty FaceTime photoshoots, after having one done by him herself.

She was forced to cancel around 50 pre-booked photoshoots after the studio closed at the end of March.

She felt that she missed spending time with other women at work and needed an outlet to be creative.

The 35-year-old mum-of-three said: ‘I thought I was doing my job for other people but so much of what I do is part of me and when we were told that we couldn’t work it was like we were being told we couldn’t be ourselves.

‘When you’re a creative it’s hard to be told that you can no longer create – so we thought “how can we still do this in the current situation we’re in?”.’

The team offers solo photoshoots for women, couples photoshoots, family photoshoots and newborn photoshoots.

Jennifer said: ‘When we first put it out there we did a few shoots and it went quiet, then we posted a few more pictures of my friend who is pregnant and it just went crazy and we now have had 100 bookings and there is a two-week wait.’

Jennifer and fellow photographer Michelle Norman call up the clients via FaceTime, direct them on where to place their phone and how to pose before taking the images via the live photo button on the app.

Some staff members, including Aurora Way and Holly Ramejkis, who have been furloughed, have been getting involved with the shoots for fun during their time off.

Nysie Gunner had one of the photoshoots at her home in Southsea.

She said: ‘I was super nervous to do the Liberty FaceTime shoot but Jen made me feel so comfortable. The Liberty photographers are amazing at directing you into poses that will make you look and feel amazing.’
