Ed’s Bangers, in Southsea, has just released a new range of homemade sausages - the chilli banger - and owner Jason Misters is encouraging hungry people to get involved in a challenge that would crown the person who eats two bangers in the fastest time.

Spicy sausages lovers from around the Portsmouth area can then upload a video of themselves eating two bangers to social media for Jason to judge.

The winner, which will be announced on July 12, will take home a free pack of Jason’s ‘special’ sausages every month for a year, which are made up of some of their award-winning ingredient combinations such as Jack Daniels and honey or mushrooms.

The new range of sausages is a collaboration between Hilsea-based Chilli Mash Company, whose chillies are used.

Heat ratings range from hot to expert, with bhut jolokia - also known as ghost - chillies being used.

Jason, who is also a serving soldier, has also launched a new range of sausages made with Kraken rum and Naga chillies, which register at 1,000,000 on the scoville heat scale.

The team, which consists of Jason and his girlfriend Marion Morris, have been busy over the lockdown period delivering mince to people.

They started delivering packs of beef and pork mince four weeks ago after realising people were struggling to find these in supermarkets.

Jason said: ‘There were a few nurses that we delivered to that were really grateful that we could deliver to them, so it was really nice to be able to do that for them.’

After feedback from customers saying they wanted to try their sausages, the two brought them back.

Jason said: ‘I thought that it would help to start doing deliveries, then people asked if we did sausages too and that’s when we decided to release the bangers.’

Ed’s Bangers also offers vegan and vegetarian sausage options, with its jackfruit, chocolate and chilli banger and its aubergine, garlic and chilli banger.

The business is also running a competition on social media to give away over £70 worth of sausages to celebrate its first birthday.
