Supermarket Farmfoods opens in Fareham
SHOPPERS looking to get their hands on some bargain groceries were delighted as a new supermarket opened its doors on Friday.
Farmfoods, a Scottish family-run supermarket business that specialises in frozen food, opened its newest store at Collingwood Retail Park, in Newgate Lane, Fareham.
The supermarket has taken over the premises formerly occupied by Poundstretcher.
Farmfoods has more than 300 stores – including one in Fratton and one in Leigh Park – and four distribution centres nationwide.
It has been operating for more than 60 years.
Store manager Chris Conway: ‘Fareham is a great location for us. Retail parks always do really well and we will be some good competition for the shops in this area.’
The supermarket joins the Matalan, Homebase, Asda, Lidl, B&M and others at the park.
Chris said he was confident the store would bring great value to the area.
He said: ‘We have great products at great prices. We keep things simple to give great value to the customer.
‘It’s all about great family values. It’s about every day modern family life.
‘There are lots of bulk buy offers here, so you get more for your pound.’
Shoppers queued outside for the store to open on Friday at 8am.
First in the store was Ann Wearn, from Lee-on-the-Solent.
She was delighted to get her shopping paid for as a thank you for being the first in.
She said: ‘It was very good, in fact it was brilliant. It was my first time in a Farmfoods and I was impressed. They had a great range. I got about £70 worth of shopping paid for, and stocked up on lots of jars and tins, it was a nice surprise. I will definitely be back.’
Chris said that he was delighted with the response so far from his customers.
Chris added: ‘It has been really positive so far. Lots of people have been asking when we are opening, it’s been really good. We are pleased to be here.’
