Tesco Express in Lee-on-the-Solent ram-raided - but suspected burglars leave empty-handed

A TESCO store in Lee-on-the-Solent has been ram-raided by suspected burglars – who left without taking anything from the supermarket.

A vehicle was reversed into the front window of Tesco Express in Pier Street in the early hours of Monday.

The store was temporarily closed on Tuesday morning for police to complete their investigations.

It reopened by midday on Tuesday.

Police are investigating the incident as an attempted burglary, according to a spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary.

He said: ‘We are investigating a burglary which took place at the Tesco Express in Pier Street, Lee-on-the-Solent in the early hours of Monday morning.

‘During this incident, a vehicle reversed into the shop window.

‘Enquiries are ongoing.’

A Tesco spokesperson added: ‘We’re pleased to confirm that our Lee-on-the-Solent Marine Express is open as usual and serving customers following a burglary on Monday night.

‘We are assisting the police with their enquiries.’
