Waterlooville-based Prepped put an appeal on its Facebook page asking people to nominate deserving teachers to receive a week’s worth of meals, with the aim of feeding 20 teachers.

The healthy meal prep business ended up providing around 50 teachers from Waterlooville and the wider Portsmouth area with one nutritious meal every day for one week.

The scheme was running from the end of May with teachers able to redeem the meals at a time that suits them, as it is offered as a voucher code for the Prepped website.

Launched in February, the business offers a range of high protein meals, as well as a ‘stay-at-home’ range, which was introduced during lockdown and is made up of healthy and balanced foods.

Prepped is due to launch its low-calorie meal preps in the coming weeks, which are aimed at people looking to lose weight.

Owner George Purnell, who also runs Cowplain restaurant Koop + Kraft, said: ‘We chose teachers because they are doing such a good job at educating people, especially young people who might not fully understand the concept of what’s going on in the world right now.

‘We were inundated with suggestions of teachers to donate to so we decided to extend it out to 50 teachers so we didn’t disappoint anyone that showed interest.

‘We’re looking at options to reward other key workers as well. We don’t want to leave anyone out as they’re all appreciated so much by everyone.’

George and the rest of his team also cooked 150 meals for staff at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham before lockdown restrictions were put in place.

The 27-year-old said: ‘We really wanted to show our support to all of the doctors, nurses and every other staff member who were all working so hard and at this point no one else was doing anything similar so it was great to be able to put a smile on their faces when everything started to get really serious. It’s so amazing to be able to give back wherever we can.’
