Diners at The Akash Indian Restaurant in Albert Road can enjoy a meal – and then get home safely for free thanks to a partnership between the restaurant and taxi firm Uber.

The family-run restaurant teamed up with Uber after it expressed interest in working with a local business on the back of the company arriving in Portsmouth last year.

Uber is offering a free first ride taxi ride worth up to £15 with a code dedicated to The Akash.

Faz Ahmed, runs The Akash with his family, said: ‘Uber is a global company worth billions, and already they are completing thousands of journeys in the city.

‘They liked the fact that we are a family-run business with loyal customers, many of whom have enjoyed our cuisine for nearly 40 years.

‘We are very excited to be working with Uber and we are also keen to work with as many businesses as possible.

‘We have partnered with national brands such as Fitness First, Specsavers, as well as local firms like the Kwiki Mart, Swirls Gelato and BC&A Chartered accountants so that we can all help each other and boost business in Portsmouth.’

To take advantage of the offer go to ubercode.co.uk and register, and then redeem the code AKASH1978.

Uber launched in Portsmouth in November – despite objections being raised from other taxi companies.

Since then its 1,000 drivers have covered 500,000 miles of journeys and more than 25,000 people in Portsmouth have now downloaded the app. To celebrate reaching the milestone, Uber is offering free travel up to £10 on Tuesdays for the month of August.
