That is the viewpoint of The News Innovations Awards 2022 taken by the University of Portsmouth, one of the event’s key sponsors.

The university backed the inaugural event in 2021 and is back on board this year, not just as a partner but by providing the venue in the surrounds of the groundbreaking and futuristic Centre for Creative and Immersive Extended Reality (CCIXR) in the Eldon Building, Winston Churchill Avenue.

CCIXR is the UK’s first purpose-built facility to bring under one roof a whole suite of the very latest, cutting-edge kit to support innovation in virtual, augmented and extended realities. It will provide the backdrop to this year’s awards on October 12.

Pippa Bostock, CCIXR business director, said: ‘We are delighted to be hosting the Innovation Awards, in order to celebrate the wonderful creativity and innovation that takes place across the region. The university is passionate about supporting innovation and business excellence, and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone to our cutting-edge Centre for Creative and Immersive XR on the night.’

She added: ‘CCIXR is an ideal place to host this years awards, bringing together a fusion of innovative world-class technology and expertise, with a passion to enable businesses and individuals to maximise the power of XR technology.’

The awards are once more looking for the most ground-breaking and pace-setting companies and entrepreneurs in our region and entries are now open. They cover a wide range of sectors such as health, education, community, defence and the environment.
