Fareham pub gets a new lease of life after £350,000 refurbishment

Following weeks of renovation, West Street’s new Ironmaster finally opened its doors – officially – yesterday.

Formerly known as the Market Tavern, the site has received a fresh lick of paint, an overhauled menu and a new team of staff who are determined to support Fareham.

Operations director Karen Baskett said it was fantastic to finally open and was eager to see customers in the pub.

‘We’re very excited about the future and we will work really hard to earn the respect of the locals and put the pub in the heart of the community,’ she pledged.

To kick-start this focus on community spirit, the pub donated £250 to Simon Says, a charity that helps children after the death of a parent.

The group holds monthly meetings for youngsters in Gosport and Portsmouth, supporting more than 100 people from across the area.

Collecting the cheque was the organisation’s treasurer, Brian Adams.

He explained in Hampshire there were 3,600 children dealing with the loss of a parent.

‘This £250 is a huge amount for us – that will run the Gosport group for three months,’ he said.

‘The support pubs like this give is absolutely vital in helping these children dealing with a bereavement.’

Speaking of the refurbished eatery, Mr Adams added: ‘It’s fabulous, I’m absolutely amazed by what they have done.’

Owned by Enterprise Inns, the pub serves classic British dishes, local ales, craft beers and a range of lagers.

There is also a new beer garden at the rear of the site.

General manager Aggie Jaskiewicz said the new layout and additional children’s menu made the Ironmaster more family-friendly.

‘We have worked incredibly hard to transform this pub into a nice, open place to bring the family,’ she said.

‘So finally opening the doors, it just felt like all the pieces have finally come together. It’s really exciting.’

The Ironmaster is open seven days a week.
