Firm backs change to divorce law
Solicitors from Trethowans, the lead sponsor for The News Business Excellence Awards, are supporting Resolution’s campaign for ‘no-fault divorce’ during Good Divorce Week, which runs until December 1.

Hide AdCurrently, there is only one ground on which a petition for divorce can be presented by either party and that is that the marriage has broken down irretrievably. For evidence, the person seeking the divorce relies on a fact of adultery, unreasonable behaviour, desertion or separation. Experts argue the need to blame a party for the marriage breakdown can cause unnecessary difficulty.
Grant Cameron, partner at Trethowans, said: ‘A no-fault divorce could greatly assist in reducing the inevitable tensions that arise on marriage breakdown.’
