The firm, which has an office in Commercial Road and throughout the south, is asking homeowners to take simple steps to make their homes safer.

The business warned that, as the clocks go back and winter approaches, residents can be more at risk from opportunistic thieves.

Martin Rutter, managing director for Anglian Home Improvements South, said: ‘We know home burglaries spike during certain times of the year, which is why we’re urging people to review their home security this winter.

‘Whilst in a lot of cases it is simply just unfortunate bad luck with their home being targeted, there are simple steps homeowners can take to deter thieves.’

Tips offered include keeping the illusion that your house is occupied, even if it isn’t, by installing timers on lights, TVs and music systems during your absence.

Resisting the temptation to shout about heading off for winter sun holidays on social media, alerting your alarm companies before you go away and strengthening or checking locks that may have become weak over time are also advised.
