Gosport sees less people calling financial ombudsman

FEWER people have been contacting the financial ombudsman, figures have revealed.

In Gosport, there has been a 34 per cent reduction of residents using the helpline to sort out their financial problems. The ombudsman is a free service set up with the power to sort out problems between consumers and financial businesses.

It recently published figures showing that during the past financial year there were 782 complaints in Gosport, which required investigation, 409 fewer than in 2013/14 when 1,315 complaints were investigated.

Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage said: ‘These figures clearly suggest fewer people in Gosport are having to cope with financial problems.

‘These cases can be hugely difficult and stressful, so it is good to hear that fewer problems are arising. However, it might also be the case that people in Gosport don’t know who to turn to when facing complex financial problems.’
