Mitch Lee, 30, and his wife Shirin, 29, launched Mitch’s Kitchen, an online shop which supplies vegan meals from its Droxford base, last year.

The caring couple already donate meals to children living in poverty, one for every meal a customer buys, through partnerships with charities Mary's Meals and Work For Good.

However, as coronavirus hit and the company saw more customers turn to its website boosting business, the entrepreneurs decided to step up and help others.

They joined up with Ripples of Compassion, a charity set up in memory of two-year-old Ripley Olive Corless who died from leukaemia in October 2017.

They will now be donating meals and veg boxes to families across the country - and they’ve helped nearly 50 families so far.

Shirin said: ‘As part of our ongoing mission to make our food a force for good, we teamed up with Ripples Of Compassion to deliver food parcels to families with children who are medically vulnerable and shielding.

‘For these families, the challenges of doing a food shop have been made more difficult by the fact supermarket’s dedicated shopping hours have, until now, failed to recognise medically vulnerable children and their families as those who would need access.

‘In addition to this, they’ve not been able to access the limited online delivery slots available to vulnerable people. This has meant families have been put at high risk just to shop for their basic needs.

‘We've prepared more than 100 meals and veg boxes for vulnerable children and families. The cost of these food parcels is being covered by both Mitch's Kitchen and Ripples of Compassion.’

Mitch added: ‘The positive messages that we are getting from the families we help have been incredible. You can see how much it means to them to have something simple like fresh produce. It is nice to do something positive.’
