Multi-million pound M27 junction scheme progresses

PROGRESS on a £19.6m scheme to improve a heavily-congested motorway junction has moved forward.

Hampshire County Council is set to step up the acquisition of land needed to transform Junction 9 of the M27 at Whiteley.

The works will involve the creation of an extra lane on both junction off-slip roads, the widening of the existing short left-turn lane at Whiteley Way and additional lanes on both the northern and southern sections.

To carry out the works, the council is set to compulsory purchase up to 3.7 acres of nearby land.
