New ‘fogging’ disinfecting process to help kick-start Portsmouth's hospitality industry

With the government hoping to open up the tourism and hospitality sector from potentially as early as July 4, Portsmouth based Smart Fogging Solutions has already been deep fogging rooms at The Queens Hotel and has bookings to sterilise The Royal Beach Hotel before it reopens as well as using the process to disinfect 800 taxis at the city firm Aqua Cars.

Manager, Tim Hart, 54, said: ‘We use a V2 antiviral disinfectant which has been proven to kill coronavirus in around five minutes. The fogging machines release particles which are 15 microns – much smaller than a normal spray which allows it to cover and get into everything in a room.

‘You can obviously disinfect by hand but there are places which can’t be reached and which can easily be missed. It’s the same process which is used in hospitals.’

The process takes around thirty minutes and and for the most effective results needs to be repeated every few weeks.

Tim, who carries out the fogging clean with son Harrison, 24, added; ‘The fogging will kill any virus it comes into contact with and provides a protective barrier on the surface.’

After a property has been ‘fogged’ it is provided with a sticker which businesses can display in its window which has a tick along with the message ‘regularly disinfected’. Tim hopes to roll out the fogging treatment in other businesses and public services.

‘I am already lined up to go into a number of hairdressers but I believe this can also help pubs, restaurants and even schools looking to reopen. It is all about restoring public confidence and knowing you are going into a sterile environment will help with this,’ said Tim.
