Outdoor fitness company offers free beginners' summer classes

AN OUTDOOR fitness company is offering free group fitness sessions after research found that one in five people do not feel fit enough to exercise with other people.

British Military Fitness is holding beginners’ sessions on Southsea Common every weekend in August.

Research found that those starting an exercise regime alone have a dropout rate of about 43 per cent, whereas for those who train in a group environment, that figure is around six per cent.

BMF’s group sessions are led by serving or former members of the Armed Forces and are a fun, effective way of getting fit.

With the encouragement of expert instructors, people train in pairs and groups, burning up to 700 calories a session.

Harry Sowerby, managing director, said: ‘BMF is all about people coming together and having fun, whilst getting fit and improving their lifestyles at the same time – you don’t need to be super-fit to join our ranks! Each session is varied to keep both the body and mind motivated and the workouts are designed to improve your stamina, speed, agility and strength in a fun and interesting way.

‘We understand if you are new or returning to exercise, it can be scary and we really want to motivate those who perhaps wouldn’t usually consider a group exercise class to come down to the parks and see what we are all about. All they need to do is put on their trainers and come down to the park and we will do the rest.’
