But with eight gyms opened across the UK, the team thought it was the right time to head home and are opening their newest gym at Pompey Centre on Wednesday.

Chief executive Gary Lockwood said: ‘We had been looking for a site in Portsmouth for a while and we started sorting everything in January with a plan to open in the summer but Covid got in the way so with tier 2 starting next week we thought this was the time.

Les Mills virtual classes will also run via projector screens throughout the day and evening.

Gary said: ‘We started the company in Portsmouth 12 years ago with a short term lease on a site in Gunwharf Quays, since then we have been all over the country opening new gyms, but the new site in Fratton is really special to us as it’s like coming home. We are hoping to see some old faces and can't wait to meet lots of new ones.

‘It has been a tough year for a lot of businesses, and the fitness industry has been hit harder than most.

‘24/7 Fitness has had its fair share of stressful moments and hand wringing over government announcements, so it’s nice to end the year with a really positive event.’
