Salt & Sage Bistro opened in Fareham Shopping Centre on Monday, May 5 and has already received. Owners Jemma and Luke Wainwright were pleased to open the doors after weeks of hard work to get the site ready.
Luke said: “We've put a lot of time and effort into this place and we are excited to get off the ground and get running. During the daytime, we're doing more of a premium cafe style feel, like really exciting jacket potatoes, not just your standard one.
"We have a cheeseburger jacket potato, and we do a prawn and crab jacket potato, a nice homemade chicken curry, and then we've got really good hot sandwiches. We also do a chicken parmo sandwich, and what I believe is going to be our signature is our roast chicken Yorkshire burrito, which is a giant Yorkshire pudding, chicken, stuffing, potatoes, homemade gravy, all wrapped up.”
At the end of the week, the bistro will run a restaurant service with an evening menu serving items such as sage butter pork chop and roast chicken. Luke said: “Thursday, Friday and Saturday, we open for the evening and we've got our bistro burger, which comes with a potato bun, which is a bit different, which is all baked in store locally. We also do steaks and lots more."
Having opened at the start of the week, Luke has been delighted with the community’s response so far. He said: “We've had lots of really, really positive feedback on the food, the quality of it, portion size, and the price. It has all been really, really good.”
Something that was very important to Jemma and Luke was ensuring their produce was fresh and local. Luke said: “We source our meat locally from Hadlow, which is in Titchfield, and coffee is roasted for us in Southsea by Broadway Coffee Roasters. We're trying to keep things local and fresh, and as much as we can, we try and source locally as well.”
Salt & Sage will open 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday with an additional opening time of 5pm to 9pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Sunday it will open 10am to 4pm.
