Southsea restaurant's first 'doggy brunch' proves a hit - here's when it's on again
THE city’s dachshunds put their best paw forward for a special event that was designed especially for sausage dogs.
Becketts restaurant and hotel in Southsea held a ‘doggy brunch’ attracting around 40 dachshunds who enjoyed a dog-friendly prosecco, beer and baked treats.
Their humans were also included in the day, as they enjoyed the restaurant’s standard brunch menu, as well as two-for-one cocktails and half price prosecco.
It was the first of many of the monthly themed brunch events, with each month focusing on a different breed.
The team at Becketts have announced that February’s theme will be French Bulldogs and will be held on Saturday, February 29.
There was a fancy dress theme and the winner took home a £20 Becketts voucher.
The event was inspired by owner Soraya Parker’s pooch Enzo, who was the head judge of the best-dressed dog competition.
Costumes included tutus, knitwear, hoodies and waistcoats.
Soraya said: ‘We had such a pawsome day at our first Doggy Brunch. Over 40 sausages showed up and we loved meeting every single one.’
It was sponsored by Cosham and Southsea-based pet boutique, Parker’s Pets.
There were some famous pooches in attendance, with many having their own Instagram account and even a pair of dachshunds who have their own YouTube channel.
Owner Jade Elliott said: ‘It’s good for like-minded dog owners to go to introduce their dogs and to bring together dog lovers.
‘It’s something exciting and a bit different and it can lead to more things like dog walks or friendships.’
The bar and restaurant, which also has six hotel rooms, is famous for its popular bottomless brunch, which includes half price prosecco and two-for-one cocktails.
