Sponsor says event is '˜ideal platform'

AS a returning sponsor at this year's The News Business Excellence Awards, BAE Systems knows all too well the success that can come from winning a coveted accolade.

The technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions giant has been a supporter of the awards for seven years.

As well as acting as an ongoing sponsor of the annual event, BAE staff have also sat on the judging panel to review local businesses and pick their favourites from the long list of nominees.

With a large base in Portsmouth, the firm looks to support businesses in the region.

A spokesperson for BAE said: ‘BAE Systems strives to invest in the local communities where its employees live and work.

‘It supports organisations and events that promote study in the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects, as well as those that preserve maritime heritage and support a modern Royal Navy.’

As part of BAE’s strategy to support the community, the firm announced that, this year, it will be sponsoring the Community Contribution category.

The spokesperson said: ‘We recognise the growing importance of community investment and view it as a key enabler of business success.

‘The News Business Excellence Awards provides an ideal platform to highlight the efforts of local industry, their commitment and involvement in the community.

‘By sponsoring the Community Contribution category, we look to support those businesses dedicated to helping the area.’
