Taxi firm Uber helps boost charity shops

TAXI firm Uber and Age UK are today launching a new initiative to allow people across the UK to help older people this Christmas.

As part of #UberGIVING, people in 20 cities across the UK, including Portsmouth, will be able to order an Uber to collect donations for Age UK charity shops.

Cars can be ordered by requesting UberGIVING in the Uber app between 11am and 4pm this Saturday.

Cars will then deliver the donations to a local Age UK shop. Proceeds will be used to help fund the charity’s work to tackle loneliness among older people.

Jo Bertram, regional general manager of Uber in the UK, said: ‘Our technology allows you to do amazing things and this Christmas we’re using it to help people give back to charity at the tap of a button.

‘By making it easy for people to donate unwanted items we can help Age UK support lonely older people. Before relatives and friends arrive for Christmas now is a great time to have a clear out and give back to charity too.’

Steve Wooldridge, from Age UK, said: ‘We ask anyone who is having a clear-out to consider using this excellent, free service to donate their goods and help us to tackle the loneliness blighting the lives of far too many older people.’
