A Rotary Club in the North of England sent Shoeboxes to Romania in 1994, three years later other clubs started to follow them.

Now Rotary clubs up and down the country organise the collection and distribution of thousands of boxes to go to disadvantaged and displaced children in many countries including Moldova, Montenegro, Romania and Ukraine.

We at Southsea Castle Rotary Club have been out collecting this years shoeboxes from schools and friends including Ark Academy, Court Lane, Kingscourt, Mayville High and Trafalgar Schools. 73rd Scout Group, Charlotte from Curtain Call, PS&B Estate Management and Friends of Bertie Rd.

We feel very lucky that we have so many school children, family and friends that are still able to fill our boxes with small gifts, toys, educational and hygiene items that most of us in this country take for granted, but a lot of the children receiving these shoeboxes probably don't have, or receive any other gifts. Especially as now-a-days there are so many other charities and organisations also collecting and sending out shoeboxes.

A big THANK YOU to you all, there will definitely be lots of Very Happy Children opening their shoeboxes
