Hayling care home working closely with Rev Jan Fuller

Jan joined the churches team six months ago but had previously connected with Wimborne’s Home Services Advisor Nikki Shepherd when they’d both been working in Portsmouth in 2025. The world can be a small place but of course we are on are 2 adjacent Islands!

Jan and Nikki connected when Jan, as an Anna Chaplain started a Dementia Café in St Luke’s Portsmouth, which Nikki professionally supported as a Dementia Lead. Now Jan is bringing her expertise in supporting older people with general chat and faith based conversations, to older people on Hayling. Residents at Wimborne have been enjoying the regular communion services and Zoe Freeman, Senior Activities coordinator is delighted at the powerful impact having Jan in the home has had.

Jan is a fascinating lady, a woman who can ‘make a decision’ indeed. As a young woman she was working in accounts but one evening found herself in a pub and selling raffle tickets,. Well, within 4 weeks of fatefully convincing a stranger to buy what happened to be a winner, she was married to him!

She’d been raised with faith but returned to it as a Mum to be and has never looked back. Some 39 years into that journey she is now an ordained curate and has had the last 6 months working on Hayling, Wimborne has certainly been a beneficiary of her service.
