Apprenticeaward forplumbing student

A COLLEGE student has won a regional apprenticeship award.

Ewan McGregor, 20, has been named the HIP UK Heating Apprentice of the Year for the south west after completing a set of challenging tasks.

Working alongside other aspiring plumbers, the Chichester College student had six hours to finish work, which included installing and hanging two radiators, and connecting them to a boiler using pipework to meet a specified design.

As well as completing the job, the apprentices were also judged on their soldering and keeping their work environment clean and tidy.

Ewan, who works for Clarkes Services Ltd while completing a Level 2 apprenticeship in plumbing with the college, said: ‘It was challenging, but I really enjoyed it and to win was brilliant.’

Ewan will now be competing in the national final, which will be held in Cheltenham in April.
