Fareham school issues warning after man made 'suggestive comments' to children at nearby shop

Ranvilles Infant and Junior School in Oldbury Way, Fareham, put out a safeguarding alert on social media on Friday.

The warning comes after a man was reported to be loitering outside the One Stop close to the school.

In a post on Facebook, the school wrote: ‘Dear Parents: We are writing to you to raise awareness of an incident which occurred locally at the One Stop store on Greyshott Avenue.

‘Our absolute priority is to keep all of the children safe and we know that this is also of paramount importance to you.

‘One Stop store contacted us today to advise of a male, aged around thirty with short cropped hair and wearing a track suit, who has been loitering outside their shop in the early evening on a couple of occasions.

‘The store representative shared with us that this person made suggestive comments to children who visited the store.

‘We are advised that the police have been involved although we understand that no arrests have been made.

‘We ask that you advise all of your friends and neighbours of this information so that the whole community is aware and protected.’

Police are asking anyone who witnesses ‘suspicious incidents’ in the area to report them.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary added: ‘We have been made aware of a man acting suspiciously at the One Stop shop on Greyshott Avenue, Fareham, on January 21 and 22.

‘An officer attended on January 21 but the man had left prior to police arrival.

‘The Neighbourhoods Policing Team have been made aware and will be making enquiries.

‘We continue to encourage members of the public and local businesses to report suspicious incidents to us on 101.’
