Amy Hudson, who teaches at St Columba Church of England Primary School, created her own version of the Little Mermaid song, Part of Your World, which children have enjoyed via the power of Facebook.

With emotive messages such as ‘nothings the same without your smiles’ and ‘we miss you all’, Amy said she wrote the lyrics from the heart.

‘As a school we want them all to know we’re missing them and when I wrote and sang the song I was speaking from the heart,’ said Amy. ‘As the song says we want them to remember they are part of our world.

It’s a sentiment shared by headteacher, Tracy Marsh, who said: ‘We appreciate how hard it is for our community but we want our children and families to know they’re at the heart of everything we do.’

Amy, who helps organise Portsmouth Schools’ Music Festival, decided to rewrite the song after hearing how much the children were missing school.

‘This is an extremely difficult time for children who’ve had the world as they know it turned upside down. I decided to write the song after receiving an email from a parent saying how much the children were missing the familiar faces of school.

‘Hopefully the song will let them know how much we’re missing them and bring a smile to their faces.’

Parents responding on Facebook have been moved to tears.

One comment said: ‘Mixture of happy and sad tears. We all miss you terribly and my two are desperate to get back to you. This will definitely make their day.’

Another parent added: ‘Mrs Hudson you have given me goosebumps and I shed a tear. I know you miss those little people so much, you will brighten their faces with this for sure.’
