Hampshire's 23 highest-performing state primary schools - based on pupils' essential skills

These Hampshire schools set their pupils up for future academic success 🏆

The primary school years cover many vital steps in a young person’s life, overseeing much of their early social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.

That’s why it is so important that children go to a school that can steer them safely on their learning journey. For parents in Hampshire, applications for next year’s primary school starters open in just a week’s time - as will applications for children hoping to transfer to a junior school. That means that the clock is ticking to land your child a spot in a school you feel will be a good fit for your family.

We’ve created a league table of state-funded primary schools in the Hampshire County Council and Southampton City Council areas to help (we’ve also done a separate one for Portsmouth parents here). It’s based on the percentage of each school’s pupils who completed Year 6 in the 2022-23 school year (the most up-to-date data available, until the finalised data for the 2024 school year is published in December or January) and met the government’s expected standards in three key skills: reading, writing and maths.

All schools included on the list had more than 80% of their pupils hit this target. This has given many smaller, local village and faith schools a chance to shine. But equally, even though they often have many more students to get across the goalpost, some larger schools in centres like Southampton and Winchester have made the list too.

The schools on the list also had an overall Ofsted rating of ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ before this measure was dropped last month, meaning the quality of education provided, student behaviour and attitudes, school leadership and management, and student safeguarding were all been found to meet or exceed government standards the last time the school was inspected.

Here were the 23 schools from across Hampshire that made the grade:
