Horndean Technology College students should be 'proud', says headteacher

Julie Summerfield, headteacher of the school, congratulated more than 280 students as they picked up their results in staggered groups – and reassured them they will be kept updated on the delayed results for certain qualifications.
She said: ‘We’re really proud of all our students who have got their results today.
‘In the main, they have got the results that they deserve.

Hide Ad‘We have been trying to keep students informed of all the changes that have been occurring.
‘So there is still that element of uncertainty which we are trying to allay as much as we can.
‘On the whole the student’s seem very happy with their results. When they come through the door they are very apprehensive – maybe more so that others years.’
The school’s headteacher was one of many across the area lambasting the government for a series of u-turns and delays constituting this year’s results fiasco.
She added: ‘There have been too many last-minute changes.

Emma Reid, 51, who works as a learning support assistant at Horndean Technology College, was back on site – as a ‘very proud’ parent to her daughter Eleanor, who has achieved seven 8s, one 7, and one 6.
Emma said: ‘I’m feeling very proud – and very relieved. 48-hours ago we weren’t sure what was going to happen. There has been a lot of uncertainty.
Eleanor added: ‘We got some of our grades assessed before we left – but we were still worried the algorithm would be in effect.’
