Mayfield School in Portsmouth confirms when it will reopen after bomb threat

Mayfield School in Mayfield Road, North End, was shut on Monday after an email was sent claiming that an explosive device had been planted on its grounds.

After working with the police over the weekend, the school has now confirmed that it will reopen on Tuesday.

In a statement on the school’s website, headteacher David Jeapes said: ‘I am writing to update you about the school closure on Monday, March 16.

‘We can confirm that Hampshire police have conducted a search of the school site and nothing suspicious has been found. Therefore we will be reopening on Tuesday at the normal times.

‘I would like to apologise to everyone for the disruption that this emergency closure has caused, but trust you will appreciate that the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community must come first.’

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed a search of the premises found nothing suspicious but officers are still conducting enquiries.

A police statement said: ‘We can confirm we were notified on Friday March 13 of a bomb threat to Mayfield School in Portsmouth.

‘Officers have conducted investigations over the weekend acting in line with our normal procedures, including a search of the school and nothing suspicious has been found.’
