Mayfield School in Portsmouth shut over bomb threat

Mayfield School in Mayfield Road, North End, will be shut on Monday following the threat.

An email was sent to the school claiming that an explosive device had been placed on the school site.

In a statement, Mayfield School said that they have been working with police over the weekend to respond to the threat and had made the decision to shut the school on Monday to allow Hampshire Constabulary to finalise their investigation of the school premises.

Headteacher, David Jeapes said: ‘The safety of our pupils and staff is our number one priority and therefore we will not open until such time that the Police have advised us that the threat against our school has been dealt with.’

It is expected that Mayfield School will re-open on Tuesday but this will be confirmed later.
