Nearly all Portsmouth teachers are worried about pupils' diet

NEARLY all primary school teachers in Portsmouth are concerned about their pupils' eating habits, research has found.

The study, conducted by the free, healthy eating educational programme Eat Like a Champ found 90 per cent of teachers in Canterbury, Southampton, Oxford and Portsmouth were worried.

It found 88 per cent believed more could be done to improve the healthy eating habits of children.

In total, 88 per cent want healthy eating to be taught as part of the curriculum for each year group, rather than just the two year groups it is taught in now.

TV presenter and mother-of-one Helen Skelton is the ambassador for Eat Like A Champ.

She said: ‘We know that teachers work extremely hard, and it is encouraging to see so many of them are enthusiastic about healthy eating education and having a real impact on their pupils’ eating habits.’
