Year 9 and 10 pupils, Katherine Loader, Ryleigh Taylor, Josh Loman and Peter Blofield received the AQA Unlocking Potential Programme Award as part a life changing mentoring programme run in partnership by exam board AQA and the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.

The students were due to deliver their Fun, Games and Cake sports project to 100 primary school pupils in April. The project, which included football skills, boxing and dance, was curtailed due to lockdown.

Not to be beaten, students produced a video of their programme before they were virtually presented with their award along with a message from Dame Kelly.

Katherine said: ‘What a privilege to be chosen - only 80 students were selected in the whole of the UK. This was also a tremendous opportunity to work with an Olympic British Champion Boxer Hannah Beharry.’

Headteacher, Chris Anders, added: ‘I’m really proud of the work undertaken by the students. Dame Kelly Holmes message was inspirational and focused on using life’s challenges to build personal strength.’
