Sophie Greppi, eight, from Portsdown Primary School, was singing, cheered on by mum Tina.

Tina, from Wymering, said: ‘It is an amazing show. It is very emotional. It is the first time she has done anything like this so I am proud of her.’

Father Christmas appeared on the steps half-way through the show during a rendition of Santa Claus is Coming To Town to cheers from the children.

She said: ‘We come every year. It is a great as a lot of children do not get the opportunity to attend shows like this. Events like this are nice as we can bring them along and parents can come along and watch too.’

Watching from the crowd was Glenn and Sarah Wilson, from Milton, and their daughter five-year-old Isabel. They were supporting seven-year old James, from Meon Infant School, in Southsea.

Dad Glenn said: ‘I think it is really good. There’s a great Christmas atmosphere and it is a great way to start Christmas.’
